The US Congress has passed a bill aimed at preventing violence against Asian Americans. Over the past year, hate crimes against Asian Americans, including a shooting in March in Georgia that killed six women of Asian descent have increased. Former President Donald Trump's labelling the coronavirus a Chinese flu has spurred the attacks, say Asian American activists. The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act speeds up the prosecution of incidents involving Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
