The aunt of aspiring lawyer Zara Aleena, who was murdered in 2022, has called on the government and justice system to take action on violence against women, saying the system "failed" her niece. Speaking to Sky's Emma Birchley, Farah Naz said: "We need to shine a light on areas that we're afraid to look at, and we've got to have the courage to face actually the reality that the streets are not safe for women and girls". Her comments were made ahead of a vigil to mark three years since her niece was sexually assaulted and murdered in Ilford, east London, by Jordan McSweeney, who had recently been released from prison.
