One of Britain's most legendary TV dramatists has told Sky News that he thinks the BBC and Channel 4 should merge. Sir Phil Redmond is the man behind two prominent Channel 4 soaps, Brookside and Hollyoaks, and he was responsible for bringing some of TV's most impactful storylines to air - from the first lesbian kiss, to bodies buried under patios. He told Sky's Katie Spencer that Channel 4's job in 1980 was to provide a platforms for "people that weren't able to break through into television" - but now that role has been fulfilled and the broadcaster should merge with the BBC in order to save money.
