According to the US National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Milton has made landfall near Siesta Key Florida as a Category 3 hurricane. Earlier, the US weather service said it was too late for people to leave evacuation zones and that they should shelter in place. On Wednesday, tornadoes ripped through the community of Matlacha and other places in southwest Florida, leaving a trail of destruction and debris. Millions of people were told to leave Florida's West Coast on Monday for safety. The Tampa Bay area, home to over 3 million people, is expected to see the worst of the storm. US President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for Florida and approved rescue teams to be positioned close to the storm. In remarks delivered on Wednesday, he stated that US officials would continue hurricane response efforts “for as long as it takes to rescue, recover and rebuild." He urged residents to listen to local officials and follow evacuation orders. Furthermore, he blasted former President Donald Trump for what he called misinformation surrounding the administration’s response efforts to Hurricane Helene, which hit the United States approximately two weeks prior. #hurricanemilton #disinformation #hurricaneresponsetrump Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dwnews_hangout Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch
