The UN human rights chief has warned that what he called the 'meagre results' and 'fatal inaction' of world leaders at the COP30 climate summit could one day be judged as a crime against humanity. Nations reached a modest agreement in the Brazilian city of Belem on Saturday, accepting weaker language on phasing out fossil fuels, in order to preserve unity. The final deal calls on countries to accelerate their climate action voluntarily, with only an implicit reference to moving away from oil, gas and coal.
