Germany's domestic intelligence agency has labeled the far-right AfD party an extremist organization and a threat to democracy. The Alternative for Germany came in second in February's national election with nearly 21 percent of the vote, making it the main opposition party in the new parliament. The official classification doesn't mean the AfD is banned, but its activities will now be subject to even closer scrutiny. The AFD says it will appeal the decision.
