EU labels Iran’s IRGC as ‘terrorist organisation’ amid Trump military threats

The EU has designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organisation,” following a meeting of European foreign ministers, EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas said. Iran’s foreign minister stated that the Iranian armed forces are prepared to respond “immediately and powerfully” to any potential attack by the United States. The warning came hours after US President Donald Trump reiterated threats of military action against the country. The USS Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, is among several US military assets recently deployed to the Arabian Sea. European Union foreign ministers have also imposed new sanctions on Iran, including travel bans and asset freezes targeting officials they hold responsible for the deaths of thousands of antigovernment protesters since late December last year.
