The Democratic Republic of Congo remembers its founding father, Patrice Lumumba, who would have been a hundred years old this week. Patrice Lumumba was born in Belgian Congo 100 years ago, when decolonization was still merely a dream. Lumumba changed that: He led the Congolese National Movement – the country's first political party dedicated to independence – and became the Congo's first prime minister. But just months after being elected, he was assassinated.
