Gaza City in ruins: 80% of buildings damaged as UN warns of massive cleanup

The United Nations estimates that 55 million tonnes of debris must be cleared before reconstruction efforts in Gaza can commence. In Gaza City alone, over 80 percent of buildings have been damaged following relentless bombardment during the recent conflict. Residents face immense challenges as they attempt to clear rubble with limited resources and a lack of heavy machinery and equipment. Daily life remains fraught with uncertainty, as displaced families await news of when they might return home. The destruction has left Gaza struggling with a lack of essential services, including water supplies, compounding the humanitarian crisis in the region.
