The UN agency responsible for education in Gaza says it's started reopening schools for thousands of children after more than two years. At one site in Gaza City, volunteer teachers have turned a historic building into a learning space. Students are attending classes at a site, which dates back hundreds of years. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud has been to Gaza City to visit the school. Farida Shaheed, UN special rapporteur on the right to education, described the collapse of Gaza’s education system due to Israel’s war as a “scholasticide”, which is the intentional destruction of educational infrastructure or the targeting of teachers and academics.
