The second train, which was operated by the state rail company, Renfe, also derailed and went down an embankment, authorities said. The collision happened about 20 seconds after the derailment, so there was no time to activate an emergency brake, Renfe’s president, Álvaro Fernández Heredia said on the local radio station Cadena Ser, adding that “human error is practically ruled out”. There were about 400 passengers on the two trains, according to a statement from Renfe. The Guardia Civil opened an office in Córdoba, the nearest city to the crash, for family members of the missing to seek help and leave DNA samples to be used in identifying bodies. #spain #traincrash #spaintraincrash
