Hundreds cross Channel after a month without migrant crossings

Hundreds of migrants crossed the Channel on Saturday, following the longest pause in arrivals in seven years. There had been no one arriving on small boats for 28 days - a pause not seen since 2018. December is normally one of the quietest for Channel crossings, with a combination of poor visibility, low temperatures, less daylight and stormy weather making the journey more dangerous.
