India has carried out strikes in Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir, India has said. Pakistan has vowed retribution over what it describes as an 'act of war.' The death toll from Indian strikes on Pakistan has increased to eight, the country's military spokesperson said on Wednesday. There were 24 strikes at six locations in total, spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said. The strikes mostly hit mosques and associated residential quarters, according to Chaudhry. Earlier when confirming the military strikes, India's defense ministry said in a statement that the targets were "terrorist infrastructure." State-run Pakistan Television, quoting security officials, said the country's air force has shot down five Indian jets. The station provided no additional detail. Pakistani officials have repeated this claim to several news agencies. A Pakistan military spokesperson told Reuters that Pakistan's air defenses shot down five Indian planes. Earlier, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar told Sky News that his country's air force had shot down two Indian jets. Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday that the downing of the jets weren't "hostile acts." Pakistan was defending its territory, the minister told Bloomberg. There has been no independent verification of this claim. There was no immediate comment from India about Pakistan's claim. #India #Pakistan #Kashmir For more news go to: http://www.dw.com/en/ Follow DW on social media: ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dwnews ►TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dwnews ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deutschewellenews/ ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1
