Investigators probe motive in National Guard shooting near White House

Investigators in Washington, DC are working to determine the motive behind a shooting that left two members of the West Virginia National Guard critically injured. The attack, described by authorities as a “targeted ambush,” occurred on Wednesday near a busy metro station, just three blocks from the White House. The suspect was swiftly taken into custody, but questions remain about the circumstances leading up to the incident and whether others were involved. The shooting prompted a temporary lockdown of the White House and Treasury Department, adding to tensions on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday. The deployment of National Guard troops in the nation’s capital has been a point of contention, following orders earlier this year to address what former President Donald Trump described as a "major crime wave." The presence of over 2,200 troops from multiple states remains divisive among residents.
