Prosecutors in Turkey have charged the jailed mayor of Istanbul with more than 140 criminal offences, carrying a potential prison sentence of more than 2,000 years. Ekrem Imamoglu was seen as the biggest political threat to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's rule. His arrest in March on corruption charges led to widespread demonstrations and Turkey's worst unrest for more than a decade. Prosecutors accuse Mr Imamoglu of heading a criminal network, claiming that he extends his influence "like an octopus".
