Russian investigators say a senior military commander has been killed in a suspected car bomb attack in Moscow. Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died when his vehicle exploded in the capital’s Yasenevo district. Speaking to Al Jazeera, military analyst Marina Miron said the killing appears to be an assassination rather than a battlefield death. She said Ukrainian security services would be capable of targeting senior Russian figures inside Russia. Miron described Sarvarov as a key figure in training and preparing troops for the war in Ukraine. She said eliminating such figures can weaken Russia at a strategic level and disrupt military planning. Miron added that replacing an experienced general during an active war would be difficult. She said the attack also sends a psychological message to Russia’s military leadership, creating fear among senior commanders.
