More than half of EU member states have backed a long-awaited free trade agreement with Latin American countries. Known as the Mercosur deal, it took nearly 25 years of negotiations to become a reality. Supporters say the agreement could strengthen Europe’s role in global trade and bring benefits to consumers — but not everyone is convinced, as the deal continues to spark debate and controversy.
