During an interview with Al Jazeera, Rami Khouri, a distinguished fellow at the American University of Beirut, analysed the Lebanon ceasefire agreement and its implications. He noted the deal is likely to hold initially as all sides are exhausted, with Israel’s army engaged in unprecedented, prolonged operations. However, Khouri pointed out that Israel has not achieved its primary goals in Gaza or Lebanon, describing the ceasefire as a “major blow” to Israel. He stated, "Being forced to accept the ceasefire is a major blow to Israel. They won't admit it, but it is a big blow to them." Khouri highlighted that Hezbollah also benefits from the ceasefire, using it as an opportunity to regroup and strengthen defences. Meanwhile, he emphasised Iran’s critical role, noting its interest in avoiding a full-scale war while reassessing its regional deterrence capabilities. Khouri concluded that the ceasefire's impact on Gaza and the broader Middle East remains to be seen.
