The Trump administration's crackdown on immigration has set off violent protests in Los Angeles. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested dozens of people in raids across the city, prompting LA mayor Karen Bass to accuse immigration agents of sowing terror in communities. On Friday evening, more than 500 people gathered in downtown Los Angeles to protest ICE’s crackdown. Groups of protesters demonstrated in front of a federal building where immigrants were believed to be detained, demanding their release. There were also reports of protesters vandalizing buildings and throwing slabs of concrete. Los Angeles police, who were not involved in the ICE raids, but were deployed in response to the protests, fired flash grenades at demonstrators.
