The national inquiry into child sexual exploitation appears to be in disarray after the chief contender to lead the investigation quit. Jim Gamble told Sky News 'growing toxicity, mischief-making, vested interests and political point scoring' was behind the decision to withdraw his candidacy. Mr Gamble is best known for his work combating child abuse, and in 2006 headed up the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, which revolutionised the approach to policing online child abuse networks.
