VOA Turkish Service reports from the Syria-Lebanon border where people are crossing from Lebanon into Syria via the Masnaa Border Crossing on Saturday. The highway connecting the two countries has been closed to vehicle traffic due to damage caused by Israeli airstrikes on October 3. Repairment of the road, a critical gateway allowing displaced people to flee from Lebanon to Syria amid bombardment, doesn't seem to be likely in the near future due to ongoing clashes between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah forces. Reporting from the border crossing, VOA Turkish Service is reporting that although the number of displaced people using this crossing point to enter Syria has decreased due to the damage on the road, there are still several people, including women and children, who reach the border in vehicles and then pass the damaged part of the road on foot, carrying their belongings, with the help of Red Crescent workers on duty in the area. The Israeli military escalated its attacks on Hezbollah leaders and facilities last month, after 11 months of limiting its responses to the militia’s daily attacks on northern Israel in support of Hamas. The Palestinian terror group, also backed by Iran, invaded southern Israel from Gaza last October, sparking a fierce Israeli response.
