Israel's systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza and the occupied West Bank has made it one of the gravest threats to press freedom globally. In the past two years, Israeli forces have killed Al Jazeera journalists, raided news bureaus, and forced closures whilst making baseless accusations against media teams exposing the ongoing humanitarian crisis. With an estimated 237 media workers killed in Gaza alone, the conflict has become one of the deadliest for journalists in recent history, surpassing casualties from Vietnam and World War II. Despite the dangers, Palestinian journalists continue to provide a vital counterweight to Israeli censorship and propaganda, risking their lives to document the realities on the ground. However, watchdog groups accuse some Western media outlets of complicity in downplaying the severity of the situation. As world leaders look away, the toll on press freedom and civilian lives continues to mount, raising urgent questions about the international community's response to the crisis.
