A limited number of flights are resuming to Doha as airlines try to move stranded passengers between the Gulf and Europe. Only a few dozen passengers were on board one of five Qatar Airways flights returning to the Qatari capital. The disruption follows widespread airspace closures across the Middle East. More than 23,000 flights have been cancelled, with losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The crisis is also disrupting air freight and global logistics, with Qatar Airways among the world’s largest cargo carriers. Aviation experts warn the disruption could have lasting effects just as the industry was recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
