US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss preserving the fragile Gaza ceasefire. Talks focused on Qatar's mediation role and advancing to the second stage of the US-led 20-point peace plan. Qatar’s PM stressed that aid must enter Gaza without conditions and that any stabilisation force must act impartially. Discussions included the force's potential role in disarming Hamas, though many obstacles remain. US officials hope to announce the force's composition early in the new year. It is proposed to consist largely of Indonesian and Turkish troops, raising concerns about language barriers with Arabic-speaking Palestinian residents of Gaza.
