Ukraine has for the first time fired US-made ATACMS missiles into Russia. Ukraine and Russia say six of the ballistic missiles targeted a military facility in Russia's western Bryansk region overnight. Moscow says five were shot down by its air defenses. Ukraine has only just received permission from the United States to fire the longer-range missiles at Russia. Moscow described the attack as an escalation marking a new phase in the war.
