Saving the bison: Threatened species return to Azerbaijan

In Azerbaijan's Shahdag National Park, bison once hunted to extinction in the wild, roam free again, marking a conservation success. Reintroduced in 2017, the herd has grown with new calves, adapting well to the rugged terrain of the Greater Caucasus. These animals play a crucial role in the ecosystem, consuming vegetation to enrich soil and disperse seeds, helping capture CO2 naturally. Camera traps reveal thriving wildlife in the park, including bears, wolves, and lynx, with bison now a vital part of this biodiversity restoration.
