An essential water source in Gaza City is now contaminated with sewage and debris. Israel’s two-year war destroyed pumps and drainage lines, turning a rainwater pond into hazardous waste. Heavy rains have raised water levels, threatening displaced families in tents. In Sheikh Radwan, water levels have risen six metres above normal, risking severe flooding. Destroyed infrastructure means 400,000 cubic metres of water cannot be drained, raising disease risks. Stagnant waters endanger children and worsen already dire winter conditions. For hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, cold, flooding, and collapsing shelters add to their hardship. Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reports from Gaza City, Palestine.
