On Saturay, Germany’s foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met with Saudi officials in Riyadh to discuss Israel and Iran exchanging missile strikes. Wadephul had to change his initial plans, which were to visit Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Yet Israel’s strikes on Iran on Friday altered the foreign minister’s schedule. Trapped between what it sees as a historical responsibility to Israel and international diplomacy, Germany is facing a tough foreign policy test after the latest Israeli attacks on Iran.
