Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds will give a statement in the House of Commons following the parent company Vauxhall announcing it will close its 120-year-old Luton plant in April, blaming the electric vehicle mandate. Shadow chancellor Mel Stride told Sky News the "government is right - we need to strike a balance between our net zero targets and penalties". Financial penalties are currently levied against manufacturers if zero-emission vehicles make up less than 22% of all sales. This will rise to 80% of all sales by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
