US President Donald Trump has launched a “Board of Peace” alongside the World Economic Forum, unveiling a plan to rebuild Gaza without Palestinian input. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative and a former Palestinian peace negotiator, questioned the legitimacy of the move. He said discussing Gaza’s future while excluding Palestinians ignores occupation, ongoing violence and the daily suffering on the ground. Barghouti stressed that lasting peace requires justice, self-determination and an end to Israeli military control. Also speaking to Al Jazeera, Aaron David Miller, a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment and former US State Department adviser, dismissed the initiative as ineffective. He said wars are ended through strong mediation and political pressure, not committees or economic blueprints. Miller warned that treating Gaza as a development project divorced from politics is unrealistic. Both said the plan risks deepening instability rather than delivering a durable peace.
