Protests continue in Turkey after Istanbul's Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was jailed pending trial over allegations of graft. His arrest provoked the largest anti-government protests in more than a decade, and mass arrests nationwide. Imamoglu, from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), leads President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in some polls. The CHP, other opposition parties, rights groups and Western powers all say the case against him is to eliminate a potential electoral threat to Erdogan. The government denies any influence over the judiciary and says the courts are independent.
