Typhoon Kalmaegi has made landfall in the eastern Philippines, bringing heavy rains, powerful storm surges, and winds of 150 kilometres per hour. More than 150,000 people living in eastern coastal provinces were evacuated from their homes ahead of landfall. The storm has knocked out power and disrupted travel in some areas. Forecasters are warning that heavy rains could unleash severe flooding and mudslides.
