On Monday, Syria marked the one year anniversary of the end of a brutal dictatorship. Thousands took to the streets, and a military parade was held in the capital Damascus, to celebrate the moment when former president Bashar al-Assad was deposed by Islamist rebels. His regime fell to a lightning offensive led by current President Ahmad al Sharaa.
