Yoon Suk Yeol sentenced to life: Former Korean president jailed over martial law

A Seoul court has sentenced impeached former President Yoon Suk-yeol to life in prison, ruling his December 2024 imposition of martial law and deployment of troops to the National Assembly an act of insurrection. The verdict follows months of protests and his removal by the National Assembly and Constitutional Court; prosecutors had sought the death penalty.
