Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani has been tipped to win the NYC mayoral race. The Democratic Socialist won the NYC primary to become the city’s Democratic nominee, beating former Governor Andrew Cuomo by double digits. Cuomo has run as an independent and was recently endorsed by US President Donald Trump, who bypassed endorsing Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. Earlier today, Mamdani cast his vote in the mayoral race. Mamdani said he ‘would not be intimidated’ by Trump’s attacks against him and his campaign. Many believe that Mamdani’s progressive campaign is shaking up the Democratic Party. His success as a Democratic Socialist running on NYC's Democratic ticket might position him as the future of the Democratic Party.
