Hill 350, site of the fiercest battles between Thailand and Cambodia, remains scarred by conflict with bullet-riddled trees, unexploded ordnance and landmines littering the area. Ancient Khmer temples along the border, including the 11th-century Prasat Ta Kwai shrine to Shiva, have been damaged beyond repair despite rules of engagement protecting cultural sites. Thai forces remain dug in at several positions, including Taman Tam Temple where the first clash erupted in late July, with Cambodian troops positioned less than 100 metres away. Whilst the current ceasefire holds, land mines have made restoration impossible and public access to these archaeological treasures remains years away.
