Journey of hope: Record surge in attempts to cross the border to Spain

As night falls on Europe’s southern border in Ceuta, migrants continue attempting to cross the fence separating it from Morocco despite tightened security by the Guardia Civil. Some risk hours swimming in search of work and a better life. They arrive hoping to continue on to mainland Spain, only to face long waits in overcrowded shelters.
