John Swinney says that former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond made a "colossal contribution” and was a "hugely important" to both Scottish and UK politics. Mr Swinney says that Scotland "got so close" to independence because of Mr Salmond, and says his job is to now "build on those foundations", as the debate for Scottish independence must "come to its conclusions".
