Two years on, Israel’s media fixated on October 7, silent on Gaza’s genocide: Gideon Levy

Gideon Levy, a columnist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, told Al Jazeera from Tel Aviv that a sombre mood hangs over Israel on the second anniversary of October 7, as Israeli media remain fixated on that day while avoiding discussion of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. He said most Israelis believe the country has the right to act without restraint and show little empathy towards Palestinians. Levy doubted Prime Minister Netanyahu would uphold any peace deal with Hamas, calling the outlook “not very hopeful.” He dismissed the proposal for an international force in Gaza as vague and unrealistic. Levy added that Donald Trump pressured Netanyahu into a ceasefire but questioned his long-term commitment, saying the war could have ended long ago if Washington had truly wanted it to.
